What can be more appropriate for the Fall Season than Marshmallows, Chocolate, and Graham Crackers, otherwise known as S’Mores!

Families all over the country gather around the campfire and toast up those delicious treats. When you do a backyard campout, it is almost a necessity to cook up S’mores.  Think about it, there is nothing better than melting and mashing up this yummy trifecta.

An incredibly hot trend right now, especially for Weddings, is to have a S’mores Buffet.  We know that Candy Buffets, Popcorn Bars, and Dessert Tables have made their mark in the recent Wedding scene.  What we have seen, especially in the Charlotte market, has been the increase in S’mores Buffets at Weddings.

Why? Three reasons:

  1. Looks great as part of the décor
  2. Interactive
  3. Delicious

So, when you do a S’Mores Buffet at a Wedding, you can use it as a part of the overall theme of the event.  For instance, how nicely would it blend for a rustic or farmhouse Wedding.

One of the things that we hear feedback on after the Wedding is how well it got people up and interacting with each other.  How many times do you see families “sticking with their own”? In other words, people are more comfortable with people they already know than they don’t know.  S’Mores Buffets have people stand next to one another toasting their marshmallows and “forcing” them to make small talk. The first step in starting a good conversation is an ice-breaker. S’Mores buffets are exactly that!

Lastly, everyone knows that S’mores are amazingly delicious. Every Weddings need a treat or a favor bag. S’Mores can be not only good during the reception, but also can be made into a take home treat to be cooked up later.

Why Large Traditional Wedding Cakes are out of style. And what is the new trend that is replacing them! So many of us remember when our older family members were getting married back in the 1980’s, 1990’s, and even the early 2000’s.  They were over the top.  The gaudy dresses, the budgets, and the huge, some say beautiful, but not very delicious, and extremely expensive.  Why did people go for such an expense to have an over the top cake? One big reason is because it was decorative.  We have spoken with, and worked with dozens of bakers and most of them have said the glory days of over-priced Wedding cake is over.  People are becoming increasing more fickle with what and who they have at their Wedding.  Brides and grooms, especially locally in Charlotte, are making their money go further and going for variety.  One way they can do this is cutting down on the expense of a large, traditional Wedding cake. Knowing that these can cost upwards of $2000 or more in many places, couples are choosing smaller cakes and adding a dessert table. So what can you typically find in a dessert table? Some choices are a cake, maybe cupcakes, cookies, cake pops, macaroons, brownies, and candy bars or candy buffets.

Dessert Candy Table

Dessert Candy Table

Why is this a better choice for people having a celebration like a Wedding? It all comes down to value and variety. People will always want a Wedding cake at their Wedding, but most people will agree that having other treats like cookies, brownies, or a candy buffet is an excellent addition to the old standby for virtually the same price.  Second to the value and variety of a dessert table is the plain fact that these also are used as a decoration.  Think about it, what looks better on a 6-foot or an 8-foot table, a standalone cake or the size, depth, and dimension of tons of treats? The answer is simple, dessert tables, including candy bars, are in.  Your 1990 era Wedding cake is out! Progress is beautiful, and so should your Wedding reception. If you need any candy catering for your event, especially Weddings, call SugarPop’s today! We construct the finest candy buffets, popcorn bars, chocolate buffets, and s’mores bars in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.  We are a brick and mortar candy shop in the Lake Norman area, nestled in Downtown Mooresville.  We would love to be a part of your event. Many times when we are working with colors that don’t have a ton of choices, we ask the Bride what her secondary or even tertiary color is.  When they have an accent color in their Wedding, we work with it.  When there are only two primary colors to get candy for, we add white, beige, or even black candy to accent the candy bar.  Many time those added colors really make the candy buffet stand out. For you DIYers, have fun with it. Now, of course, SugarPop’s is the premier candy caterer in North Carolina.  We service the Charlotte, Winston Salem, Greensboro, Asheville, and surrounding areas.  Call us today for ordering candy or have us do your Wedding candy buffet! Hope this helps!

Best Candy Choices for a Candy Buffet: Blue and White   Having a Candy buffet or candy bar at your Wedding, Birthday Party, Sweet 16 or Bar Mitzva is a great choice, but has its challenges if your are a DIYer.  This guide will help you choose the best candy for a combination of blue and white colors. Before we give you a list of candy, please consider a few important items.

  1. Each guest should get about a half of a pound a candy for their treat bag.
  2. Remember that candy buffets are also used as a decoration for your event, so color selection and themed-accents are important to keep in mind.
  3. Many DIYers purchase too little candy to fill up their apothecary jars. Standard practice is having your jars at least 3/4 of the way full.  One exception is if you add rock candy sticks or whirly pops in a jar and you are using the candy in the jars just to prop up the items.
  4. Use different types of candy and treats for your candy buffet.  Some choices are candy, popcorn, chocolate covered items, trail mix, nuts, and even dried fruit.  This will allow your guests to have some variety to choose from.  Many brides that we work with want their favorite candy, but remember that there are other people you are buying for.

With that said, let’s talk about some favorite candy specifically for a blue and white candy bar.

  • M&Ms– This classic candy comes in about 2 dozen colors. M&M’s Home Page
  • Sixlets– The candy coated chocolate flavored candies you’ve loved since you were a kid! These fun candies come in a variety of vibrant and shimmery colors. Sixlets’ small, unique shape and flavor make it like no other. Sixlets Home Page
  • Gum Balls– Who doesn’t like Bubble Gum? We usually use these as the main centerpiece of many of our candy buffets.  Why? They make a statement.  Gum Balls look great in an apothecary or candy jar and they come in a variety of colors, including shimmer for your more elegant celebrations.
  • Cotton Candy– If you are lucky enough to find a local cotton candy maker, cotton candy is a great choice to add to your candy bar.  When done right, the spinner can add colors and flavors that can only be left to your imagination.  Last week, we did a candy buffet for a Wedding that wanted purple colored cotton candy with strawberry flavor!  Cool…
  • Jelly Belly Jelly Beans: Jelly Belly is a great company. They are known to be the premier Jelly Bean manufacturer because their flavors are unmatched.  Some flavors include Very Cherry, Bubble Gum, Buttered Popcorn, Licorice, Watermelon, and Sizzling Cinnamon.  Check out the top ten Jelly Belly Flavors here: Top 10 Jelly Belly Flavors Also a good add-on to your candy buffet is Jelly Belly’s Soda collection.
  • Gummy Candy or Gummies: There are so many flavors, shapes, and sizes in this category.  Some popular choices in the blue and white colors are Gummy Bears, Gummy Sharks, Blue Raspberry Sour Belts, and Blue Raz Bottles.
  • Lollipops or Suckers:  These are a little bit harder to find in individual colors or flavors because more are sold in a assorted pack. However, check out dum dums, tootsie pops or saf-t-pops.
  • Yogurt covered pretzels: Its always nice to have some “adult” candy.  And knowing that most candy doesn’t come in white, this good be a good choice to go to when you need some variety.
  • Rock Candy: A classic candy.  Rock candy comes in a variety of colors both on string and on a stick.  You can find rock candy in both blue (light and dark) and white (clearish).
  • Foiled Chocolate Balls and Hearts: These are an absolutely beautiful candy to have in a candy buffet.  They look absolutely stunning in and jar. And let’s be honest, everyone loves chocolate.  Win-win.

This list is not the total list of candies available for use in a candy buffet, but it will give you a place to start.  Remember, have fun with your choices and keep the end result in mind; beauty and yum factor.

Congratulations on your Wedding Engagement! Now the hard part. There are so many decisions to make before your big Wedding Day. Think about it, you have to find a venue, a dress, invitations, and DJ. Photographer, videographer, caterer. Then there is the wedding cake, favor bags, and maybe even a candy buffet or candy bar. My are candy bars so popular right now? There are three big reasons. The first is because it becomes part of the decor of the reception. They are beautiful and obviously delicious. Second they double a favors. Why go out and buy something that most people don’t want! Save the money. And last, they are a great snack for the in-between moments of eating your meal and dessert. So at this point you decide to have a candy buffet at your Wedding. Maybe you incorporate it with the dessert table. Something that we have seen to be becoming even more popular in 2015. So what are the steps in a candy buffet?

  • Decide to have a candy buffet
  • Choose to DIY or hire a professional Many brides are choosing candy caterer professionals because of convenience, price, and quality.
  • If you choose a profession, such as a candy store, make an appointment with them to sit down and talk about your event.
  • At the appointment, the most important information you can share with your candy caterer is theme and colors.
  • Once the theme and colors are decided on, the hard part of picking the candy for the candy buffet has arrived.
  • Choose the candy based on either color scheme or favorites of the bride and groom. Most brides choose candy color because of the decorative aspect of it. It truly compliments, when done right, the decor of the wedding hall or venue.
  • Ask about types of jars the candy caterer or store uses. Most for weddings, will use apothecary jars, but you may have the option to use standard candy jars, including penny jars.
  • Choose your table decor. Think if your wedding is whimsical, classic, garden-themed, rustic, or shabby-chic. This will help the candy caterer make the candy table really pop and stand out.
  • Make sure you are signing a contract! This will protect you and make sure you are getting exactly what you ordered.
  • Sign the contract and pay a deposit.
